When I was 23 years old, my sweet Grandma (Oma) passed away at the age of 80. As my parents emptied her apartment, some furniture was moved into my large bedroom. One night, I heard her speaking to me and asking me questions about my boyfriend. I answered her and thought nothing of it. Many years later, I realized that I had a special gift of connecting with loved ones.
I discovered that going to wakes was a nuanced event. When I step into a funeral home, to pay my respects, I will usually have a conversation with the one who's crossed over, whether I know them or not. It's happened at almost every wake. One memorable time,
a friend had lost his Mom. I knew her well and when I approached the casket she appeared in golden light. She talked to me for a few minutes, sharing that she wasn't concerned about her son, but rather her daughter's well-being. After I paid my respects, my friend said "Well, you were there for a long time!" Indeed!
Another time, one of my yoga student's lost her husband after a long battle with cancer. Pictures of he and the family were throughout the room. My heart was overwhelmed with the loss of this beautiful man. My heart felt like it opened with grief and in that moment, her husband began to speak to me. Once I reached my friend, she said "I guess you and I will talk about this soon." I said "He's talking to me now, do you want to hear?" She and I cried as I shared what he was asking of her and their children.
Recently, I stepped into an art gallery in Piermont, NY and the Spirit of a grandfather talked to me about his artist granddaughter. I've stepped outside Old Village Inn, Nyack, NY, talked to a patron, found out that she lost her beloved, and he began to talk to me.
Each conversation is unique, special and endearing. I am grateful to be the conduit to the Spirit World and believe that there is magic and mystery in the unseen realms. It's always a surprise. I'm not seeking a conversation, but they are seeking me. I've often wondered, how do they know that I'm open for business? Ah that's Spirit business!
